From adorning those bright colored attires, embossed with convoluted patterns, little perky shades, loose-fitting pants; fashion in India have come a long way. We have raged on to crop tops, iconic silhouettes, hot pants, oxford shoes and the list goes on!
It has crossed all the colloquial borders, and people have been adopting other vernacular trends, hence giving rise to an exuberant collaboration of a wide variety of styles and versatility.
Talking about the influence of various cultures, the impact of the Punjabi touch, be it any field, can be seen a lot.
The cinema too hasn’t stayed devoid of a tinge of the Punjabi culture here, and a tinge there. A great inception indeed, that induced such a mind-boggling effect that has led to just about every other Bollywood movie having a Punjabi connection, for a long time now, due to the authenticity and beauty it possesses. Even for movies away from the state of Punjab, we have been a lot of outfits, jewelry and culture being inspired from Punjab and further become a fashion cult.
Punjabi Suits
The Punjabi outfits like salwar suits and have been adorning the Bollywood celebs since ages. Through ‘Dil Waale Dulhaniya Le Jayenege’, ‘Veer Zaara’, and ‘Rab Ne Banna Di Jodi’, the common man has been introduced to the true fragrance of these outfits.
The dhoti salwaars or dhoti pants are actually revolutionized forms of Patiala salwar that come long way from the northern state.
Men’s Pathani Suits
Then we see the men in pathani salwars and kurta-pyjamas, very much from the lands of Punjab. After watching shahid, saif and salman go rowdy in the pathanis, the outfit became a huge hit for ethnic clan.
Lacha & Wide Legged Salwars
We got introduced to lachas, shararas through Punjabi culture which now have been incorporated to Palazzos and wide legged pants. The cult of wearing long kurtis with frilly lachas completely changed the traditional horizons in the fashion world.
Punjabi Juttis
Kareena, through ‘Jab we Met’ introduced us to the Punjabi Jutti teamed with skin fit jeans. Since then, it has been a favourite pick for every girl next door.
Jewellery Trends
Big bold Tikkas, Jhumars, Naths and Kaleere are amongst the prominent jewelry pieces. It would be interesting to note here that various eminent celebrities have been seen time and again, adorning the same.
The traditional Punjabi ‘Chooda’, worn by brides at the time of their wedding has become popular with many girls now. Available in other colors too, it has been a fashion flavor to add for many to be brides.

Phulkari Art
Known for its heavy embroidery, a fulkari, remains the most elegant piece with a patiala suit. The designs have now been incorporated into ravishing outfits by modern designers.
